Walmart Photo Center allows customers to create personalized products such as prints, photo books, calendars, mugs, and other gift items.

I contributed design across product creation and marketing. As the primary designer using the Photo Builder, I led the builder redesign to improve both the customer experience and the internal theme creation system.

Builder Redesign

The Photo Builder was outdated and less intuitive compared to competitors like Canva, Mixbook and Shutterfly. Product customization was difficult for customers and slowed down internal design workflows when creating and managing themes.


An improved hierarchy structure and use of familiar interaction patterns minimized the learning curve while preserving flexibility for customization. The result was a modernized experience that felt approachable, efficient, and aligned with user expectations for product creation tools.

Expanded Asset Panel

The asset panel was updated to include layouts, text, and themes, and more options under each asset to make customization faster and more intuitive.

Context-Aware Controls

Page-level controls are placed at the top, and asset-specific options at the bottom so relevant tools are always accessible without overwhelming the interface.

Dynamic Frames & Backgrounds

Previously, only static image assets were available, but with flexible shapes, and unlimited solid colour options themes can have greater customization.

Search Across Assets

With thousands of assets, a search bar enables fast discovery to support both customer creation and internal theme building workflows.

Updated Iconography

A new iconography set with labels to improve scannability and reduce ambiguity.

Product and Theme Creation

I designed hundreds of themes that were scaled across a wide range of photo products, including photo books, greeting cards, blankets and mugs. Each theme supported multiple photo layouts and text options for customers looking for a quick and easy personalization experience.

Marketing and Promotional Design

I supported weekly promotions, seasonal campaigns, and product launches with email marketing, social media ads and other promotion assets. This work required fast iteration and alignment with Walmart’s strict brand guidelines to ensure consistency across touchpoints.
